Healthy gums are just as important as healthy teeth — you can’t have one without the other. Many patients often neglect their gum health by assuming that brushing and flossing are enough to keep gum disease at bay. This is often not the case.
Bacteria growth on the gums is the primary cause of gum disease. Pain, inflammation or bleeding are all signs of gum disease. It can progress from the gum line to damage the tissue and bone that supports our teeth. The best way to prevent gum disease is through routine dentist visits and early treatment at the first sign of problems.
Pedro uses a combination of methods to treat and prevent gum disease and teaches you the fundamentals of good gum hygiene. While at the dental practice, your gums will be scraped and thoroughly cleaned. If there are any signs of disease, Pedro will recommend a course of treatment to clear it up.
This may include non-surgical periodontal therapy using special cleaning equipment or anti-microbial medicines followed by scaling and root planning. Make an appointment if you experience bleeding, puffiness, recession, discharge or pain. Loose teeth or dentures, painful chewing, and chronic bad breath, are other warning signs.
