Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment can save a tooth that is badly infected or damaged. The tooth may have a deep crack, an internal abscess or diseased roots.

Once the root is compromised, the inside of the tooth needs to be cleaned to remove the infected tissue. Then the root canals are filled and sealed. The procedure takes place in four steps:

  1. An x-ray is taken to determine the exact location of the decay
  2. A local anaesthetic is administered to numb the area
  3. The infected root pulp within the affected tooth is removed
  4. The hollow root cavity is filled, and the tooth is sealed

In cases of severe damage to the tooth, a root canal treatment may be paired with a dental crown fitting to restore the tooth functionality.
